Celebrating 50 years of Hip-Hop music and photography, we are joined by Vikki Tobak and Sue Kwon who were in the middle of the 1990’s explosion of Hip-Hop and took intimate and personal photos of future stars when they were starting out. From Biggie and Tupac to Nas, from the street to the studio they capture the rise of stars and the feel of the music. We’ll talk about their experiences and how they were able to be so connected with the scene and the artists. Sue chronicled her amazing photographs in 2 books: 2009’s Street Level and 2021’s Rap is Risen 1988-2008. Vikki created the fantastic collection of contact sheets for an exhibit and book called Contact High, which features contact sheets from a ton of early great Hip-Hop photographers, including many from Sue. She has also covered a history of Hip-Hop jewelry in her book Ice Cold. They collaborated again on Vikki’s new book The Streets Win, co-authored with LL Cool J. Listen in and explore those early years of Hip-Hop with 2 great documenters of the scene.
