Jessica Gallagher is a staff photojournalist currently working at the Baltimore Banner. She holds a degree in professional photography from Brooks Institute, graduating in 2016. She attended the Eddie Adams Workshop after graduation which led to a career in photo/journalism.  Gallagher is a member of the National Press Photographers Association and holds awards from Illinois APME and the Georgia Press Association. Her documentary and news coverage of the epidemic of opioid drug overdoses in Baltimore will no doubt produce more awards.  Over the past 6 years Baltimore has lost nearly 6,000 people to drug overdoses, the highest rate in the nation.  The death rate from 2018 to 2022 was nearly double that of any other large city, and higher than nearly all of Appalachia during the prescription pill crisis, the Midwest during the height of rural meth labs or New York during the crack epidemic.  Jessica has done incredible work for the New York Times and the Banner covering this crisis.  She also was the first to interview the last driver over the Key Bridge before it’s collapse and has produced an excellent series of women of color and the rodeo
